Hard days. We all have them, we all dread them, and we all make it through them! Sometimes we feel the need to compare them to someone else’s struggles or hard days.

When I read this quote and decided I wanted to use it for a post, I searched to see who said it. It wasn’t hard to find, it popped up immediately with photos and bios of this young blond woman. Her name is Sarah J. Maas, an American Author. I found I only had part of the quote. The full quote is:

“There are good days and there are hard days for me – even now.

Don’t let the hard days win.”

I thought to myself, “that’s right, she is just like me!” So, I read more, to see how alike we must be. Imagine my surprise when I found she is nothing like me!

  • She is married to her college sweetheart
  • When the article was written, she was about to have a baby boy
  • She published her first book in 2012, Throne of Glass
  • She has written 30 novels
  • She won The Goodreads Choice Awards Best Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction Writer 2015 – 2018, as well as many other awards!
  • She was born on March 5th, 1986

Did you catch that? Her birthdate. She is 33 years old!

Nope, nothing alike, not a bit. I did meet and marry my husband when I was young, and I have a son. Otherwise, nothing alike.

Do you know why this fact struck me so? This young 33-year old woman talked about her struggles with hard days and she said: “even now.” That sounds like something a much older person, like me, would say. (Just keeping it real here!)

Then I thought about how I have not had the amazing accomplishments that she has had, although I have many successes, certainly not on the same level as hers. Yet, we both have good days and we both have hard days, and she is absolutely right, we should NOT let the hard days win!

So why am I telling you this? Simple! No matter who we are, where we are from or what we have or may not have accomplished, we shouldn’t let those bad days win. We need to keep pressing onward and getting better and finding those good days.

I hope this gives you some perspective and food for thought, as it did for me.
